ByteDance's Doubao Work launched Aug. 25, entering an AI office agent market where Tencent's WorkBuddy already commands 20.97 million monthly desktop visits.

ByteDance launched Doubao Work on Aug. 25, an enterprise AI agent that operates browsers and pulls context from Feishu's data — entering a market where WorkBuddy logged 20.97 million monthly desktop visits in June.
"As public data becomes fully learned by models, the new knowledge, experience and ideas generated by people will become increasingly important," Wang Ying, Baidu's vice president and head of its personal superintelligence business, said.
Doubao Work generates documents, spreadsheets, PPTs, images, video and web pages, with "point-and-edit" collaborative editing that lets users modify specific sections without regenerating entire files. It can operate browsers and computers after authorization, run long tasks on cloud PCs even when local machines are off, and coordinate multiple specialized agents for tasks like data research reports. The product integrates with Feishu, pulling chat records, documents, meeting notes and schedules within user permission boundaries.
The launch completes a four-way race among ByteDance, Tencent, Alibaba and Baidu for enterprise AI office dominance. Goldman Sachs research indicates AI commercialization is shifting from per-seat subscriptions to consumption-based pricing, with compute demand potentially growing 24x over five years.
Tencent's WorkBuddy, launched in March, reached 20.97 million monthly desktop visits by June — more than ByteDance's TRAE and Alibaba's QoderWork combined, per Analysys. Ma Huateng called it "the most widely used efficiency AI agent service in China" in Tencent's earnings call. WorkBuddy's model pool spans Hunyuan Hy3, GLM, MiniMax, Kimi and DeepSeek, letting users switch models mid-task when one underperforms. Tencent's existing product connections — Tencent Docs, Tencent Meeting, WeCom, QQ Mail — provided ready-made integration points, and offline advertising in first-tier cities alone approached 100 million yuan.
Alibaba's Qianwen Office added GLM-5.3 and DeepSeek V4 Pro on Aug. 14, the same day Baidu's Kuku AI launched its desktop client with external model support. ByteDance's TRAE Work previously carried Seed series, GLM, DeepSeek and Qwen models. All four players are converging on the same strategy: aggregate multiple models in one workbench rather than betting on a single proprietary model. The next battleground is routing — deciding which model handles which task, since per-call cost differences of a few cents compound rapidly at enterprise scale.
Doubao Work's core differentiator is Feishu integration. Using a Feishu account, the agent can access chat records, documents, meeting notes and schedules within user permission boundaries — turning a decade of enterprise collaboration data into AI context. Content created with Doubao Work flows back into Feishu as reusable enterprise knowledge. This follows ByteDance's July reorganization that merged the Feishu product team into the Doubao system, and the subsequent absorption of TRAE and Coze teams. The company is componentizing Feishu's capabilities: documents become AI knowledge bases, meetings become AI decision databases, permission systems become AI action boundaries.
Agent tasks consume 10 to 90 times more tokens than standard Q&A, according to industry estimates. Doubao currently earns less than 1 million yuan per day while consumption reaches tens of millions. The paid professional version costs 68 yuan standard or 500 yuan advanced, but if an AI task runs 30 minutes and costs several yuan while manual work takes three minutes, enterprise willingness to pay remains unproven. Feishu's penetration in manufacturing, retail and government sectors remains significantly lower than DingTalk and WeCom, per iiMedia Research.
ByteDance's consolidation of TRAE, Coze and Feishu into the Doubao brand concentrates its entire AI strategy on one product line. The company must prove it can win enterprise trust against Tencent's 20 years of enterprise relationships and Alibaba's established B-end presence. For investors tracking Chinese tech, the AI office agent market represents the clearest near-term monetization path for large models, with Goldman Sachs projecting compute demand growth of 24x over five years.
