The XRP Ledger now holds $418.5 million in tokenized US Treasuries, up from $50 million a year ago — an 8x jump that signals growing institutional appetite for real-world assets on-chain.
The XRP Ledger's tokenized US Treasury market has grown eightfold over the past 12 months, climbing from $50 million to $418.5 million as of July 20, according to RWA market data. The surge places XRPL among the fastest-growing chains for real-world asset tokenization, a sector that has drawn major financial institutions seeking on-chain yield products.
"Tokenized Treasuries are becoming the gateway asset for institutional crypto adoption because they offer a familiar risk profile with blockchain efficiency," said Jack McDonald, Senior Vice President of stablecoins at Ripple, in a Grayscale interview published July 19. "The XRP Ledger's low transaction costs and settlement speed make it a natural fit for this use case."
The $418.5 million figure represents tokenized short-term US government debt issued by protocols including Ondo Finance, which offers a 4.6% yield on its USDY product on XRPL. The growth trajectory accelerated in the second quarter of 2026, with the ledger adding roughly $150 million in new tokenized Treasury supply since April alone. That pace outstrips the broader RWA market, where total tokenized Treasuries across all blockchains reached roughly $3.5 billion, according to RWA.xyz data.
The expansion comes as Ripple pushes deeper into institutional infrastructure. The company's RLUSD stablecoin, which surpassed $2 billion in market cap this month, provides the settlement layer for many of these tokenized products. A 2026 pilot for near-real-time settlement of tokenized US Treasuries on XRPL, involving partners including Mastercard and JPMorgan, demonstrated the ledger's capacity for institutional-grade settlement cycles measured in seconds rather than days.
Why Tokenized Treasuries Are Flowing to XRPL
The XRP Ledger's appeal for tokenized Treasuries rests on three structural advantages. First, transaction costs average fractions of a cent, making frequent rebalancing economical for yield-bearing products. Second, the ledger's 3-5 second settlement time allows near-instantaneous minting and redemption — critical for Treasury products that track a fluctuating net asset value. Third, the upcoming Confidential Transfers upgrade, now before validators for a vote expected within two weeks, would hide transaction amounts using zero-knowledge proofs while giving issuers audit access, addressing a key institutional privacy requirement.
Ondo Finance, which launched its USDY product on XRPL in early 2026, has been the primary driver of the growth. The protocol tokenizes short-term US Treasuries and offers the yield directly to on-chain wallets, competing with traditional money market funds. Other issuers including OpenEden and Backed Finance have also deployed Treasury products on the ledger.
What It Means for XRP
The tokenized Treasury growth creates a structural demand channel for XRP itself. Market makers and liquidity providers servicing these products need to hold XRP inventory to facilitate the settlement leg of Treasury transactions. Each new tokenized product adds to the pool of XRP that must be kept available for instant settlement, effectively removing coins from speculative circulation.
XRP traded at $1.09 as of 14:30 UTC on July 20, down 68% from its year-ago level despite the on-chain growth, according to CoinGecko data. The disconnect reflects a broader pattern: XRP's price is driven by supply removal — ETF holdings of 772 million coins, exchange supply at seven-year lows, and corporate treasuries like Evernorth's 473 million XRP position — rather than transaction volume. The tokenized Treasury boom adds to the holding narrative but has yet to translate into price appreciation.
The next catalyst is the validator vote on Confidential Transfers and Batch transactions, expected to open within two weeks. If approved, the upgrades would remove two of the remaining barriers to institutional Treasury flows: privacy and atomic settlement of multi-step transactions.
