Ethena is ending its monthly ENA token release schedule and will unlock all remaining investor tokens in a single October 5, 2026 event, a date when the approved buyback program does not apply.

Ethena will release all remaining investor-held ENA tokens on Ethereum in a single unlock on October 5, 2026, ending its monthly distribution schedule. The protocol's governance-approved buyback program does not apply on that date, removing a potential price-support mechanism during the concentrated supply event.
The change follows a stretch of strong ENA performance. The token traded near $0.18 on Sept. 6, up roughly 14 percent over the prior week, according to CoinGecko data, as the market absorbed a 40.63 million ENA unlock for the Ethena Foundation and a 14 million ENA deposit to Bybit. Ethena Pay, the protocol's consumer-facing neobank built on Avalanche, launched in beta Sept. 1, adding a retail utility layer that ties ENA demand to user growth in the app.
The October 5 event replaces what would have been distributed across multiple monthly tranches, concentrating potential sell pressure into a single window. The buyback exclusion compounds the risk: Ethena's approved program, which directs a share of protocol revenue to ENA repurchases once USDe supply crosses a threshold, will not be active on the unlock date. Trading volumes on ENA already ran 60 percent above the monthly average in early September, according to Traders Union data, as traders positioned around supply events.
The structural shift from drip-fed releases to one large event raises questions about Ethena's tokenomics design and how investor confidence may evolve. Token holders who planned around predictable monthly supply additions now face a single large unlock, potentially prompting early positioning in the weeks before October 5. ENA's ability to hold recent gains above $0.17 will be tested as the date approaches. Viktoras Karapetjanc, analyst at Traders Union, said he expects ENA/USD to "remain bid with further upside potential, provided market sentiment and liquidity conditions stay favorable."
