Palantir Technologies Inc. shares could fall 5% to $117 after its Aug. 3 earnings report, analysts said, as software stocks face a sector-wide sell-off.
"The bar for Palantir is exceptionally high given its premium valuation and the uncertain pace of agentic AI deployment," said Adam Spatacco, an analyst at The Motley Fool.
Wall Street expects Q2 revenue of $1.8 billion, implying 80% annual growth, and earnings per share of $0.35, a 169% jump from a year earlier. The stock has already declined about 30% in 2026 as investors rotated out of enterprise software names following new model releases from Anthropic and OpenAI.
The sell-off in software stocks accelerated this month after International Business Machines Corp. pre-announced weak demand on July 14, sending shares down 25% in their worst session since 1987. ServiceNow Inc. reported July 22 and initially dropped 4% before recovering to trade 2% above pre-report levels. Palantir shares rose initially on the ServiceNow news but have since shown signs of weakness, suggesting the broader sector headwinds are overtaking company-specific optimism.
Palantir's valuation remains a central concern. The stock trades at elevated price-to-sales and price-to-earnings multiples relative to software peers, and the 30% decline this year has not fully erased the premium that built up during 2024 and early 2025. Agentic AI remains in early enterprise production deployment, creating uncertainty about how quickly Palantir can convert new applications into consistent, high-margin revenue.
The predicted 5% decline to $117 would represent a continued recalibration of risk rather than a fundamental rejection of Palantir's long-term thesis. The move would test the stock's support near its 2026 lows. Investors will watch the Aug. 3 earnings call for updated guidance on government contracts and commercial AI adoption rates, which will determine whether the stock can stabilize or extend its decline.
