Uniswap's DualPool hook, which routes idle liquidity into yield vaults, completed its audit and is now open source for deployment, with Spark already committing $150 million to the architecture.
"Liquidity providers can now earn yield on assets that would otherwise sit idle, without sacrificing their ability to facilitate swaps," the Uniswap team said in the hook's documentation.
The hook routes idle funds into ERC-4626 yield vaults while keeping them available for trades. When a swap hits the relevant price range, capital is pulled back from the vault into the pool. Teams can customize tick ranges and choose between single or pooled deposit options, making the system flexible for both stablecoin pairs and more volatile asset combinations. Uniswap also released developer documentation and livestreams to guide teams through implementation.
The upgrade tackles one of DeFi's oldest inefficiencies — idle LP capital. In traditional AMM design, a significant portion of committed liquidity sits unused at any moment. By making that capital productive, DualPool could drive a meaningful influx of sticky TVL to Uniswap v4, reinforcing its position as the largest DEX by volume.
Spark, the lending protocol associated with MakerDAO's ecosystem, migrated $150 million in stablecoin liquidity to Uniswap v4 in June, specifically to leverage the DualPool architecture for its foreign exchange layer handling stablecoin conversions. Stablecoin pairs are particularly well-suited for the hook because their narrow price ranges mean the vast majority of liquidity is idle at any given time. Routing it into yield vaults while it waits creates a capital efficiency that was previously unavailable to LPs.
The risk lies in smart contract complexity. Every additional layer of composability — vaults on top of hooks on top of pools — adds potential attack surface. The completed audit is reassuring, but DeFi history is littered with audited contracts that still got exploited. Teams deploying DualPool should treat vault integrations with the same scrutiny applied to any financial infrastructure handling meaningful capital.
For investors, the key metric to track will be total value locked in DualPool-enabled pools over the coming months. If Spark's $150 million commitment is the beginning of a broader trend, Uniswap v4 could see a sustained increase in deep, sticky liquidity that widens its competitive advantage against rival DEXs.
