Buyers pushed bitcoin past $79,500 on Sept. 3, erasing most of Wednesday's slide with an intraday gain exceeding 2 percent. Technical levels put the next resistance near $81,280, with $76,229 as the floor that would invalidate the recovery.
Buyers pushed bitcoin past $79,500 on Sept. 3, erasing most of Wednesday's slide with an intraday gain exceeding 2 percent. Technical levels put the next resistance near $81,280, with $76,229 as the floor that would invalidate the recovery.

Bitcoin climbed above $79,500 on Sept. 3, up more than 2 percent intraday, as buyers reclaimed control after Wednesday's drop toward $76,229.
The rebound has yet to produce the volume confirmation of a clean breakout, with recovery volume running below the Sept. 2 selloff, according to bitcoin.com's technical review of Bitstamp charts. The daily moving-average tape remains firmly bullish, with the 20-, 30-, 50-, 100- and 200-period exponential and simple averages all carrying buy signals.
Bitcoin's 13 moving-average buy signals contrast with two bearish oscillator readings — momentum at minus 999 and the MACD at 3,234 — while the RSI sits at 67, below the 70 overbought threshold. The seven-day range spans $76,297 to $81,281, leaving price in the middle-to-upper portion of the band after an August advance from roughly $62,216 to $81,455.
A daily close above roughly $81,280 would mark the upside trigger, while a break below $76,229 would reopen downside toward $74,600 and then $71,000 to $72,900. Bulls need acceptance above $79,500 to set up a run at $81,280 to $81,455.
On the one-hour chart, bitcoin ground higher after touching $76,229, with the move stalling in a liquidity pocket around $78,500 before reaching a local high of $78,743. Holding $77,500 to $77,600 keeps the long-side context intact, while a break below that zone on expanding volume would put a retest of $76,229 in the cards.
The four-hour chart shows a flush-and-reclaim pattern, a sharp drop to $76,229 followed by recovery toward $77,700 to $78,100. Resistance sits first around $78,900 to $79,000, then $79,200, then $81,280. A four-hour close below $76,229 would invalidate the recovery structure.
The broader crypto complex moved in sympathy, with Ethereum up about 5 percent to $2,495 and the Crypto Fear and Greed Index at 59, in greed territory. Bitcoin's dominance and the direction of spot ETF flows will determine whether the recovery extends beyond the current range.
For now, bitcoin remains range-bound inside the higher-timeframe advance, with $76,230 as critical support and $78,390 followed by $81,280 defining resistance. A confirmed move beyond either boundary would change the technical picture; until then, the evidence favors watching the range edges rather than treating the midrange rebound as a confirmed new leg, especially with oscillators neutral even as moving averages stay strongly bullish.
