Binance Democratizes ETH Options Writing on Dec. 22
On December 22, 2025, Binance unlocked a sophisticated income-generating strategy for its entire user base by enabling the writing (selling) of ether (ETH) options. Previously confined to professional traders, this allows any user to sell options contracts and collect the premium as immediate income. The strategy lets investors monetize their market views, particularly by selling call options against their existing ETH holdings.
To ensure responsible engagement, Binance requires users to pass a mandatory suitability assessment before accessing the feature. This expansion follows the firm's earlier move to open up bitcoin options writing and directly responds to what it identifies as rising demand from both retail and institutional clients for more advanced crypto derivative products.
Platform Upgrade and Fee Discounts to Capture Market Share
To support the new offering and attract high-volume traders, Binance has executed a significant overhaul of its options trading infrastructure. The upgrade delivers higher API throughput and lower latency, critical for institutional players and high-frequency traders requiring fast order execution. The exchange also expanded its range of available strike prices, providing greater precision for complex hedging strategies.
Seeking to cement its position in the competitive derivatives space, Binance is offering a 20% discount on taker and maker fees for VIP users across newly listed ETH, BTC, BNB, and SOL options contracts. This aggressive commercial strategy, coupled with technical improvements, aims to challenge established players like Deribit, especially as institutional products like BlackRock’s IBIT options signal a maturing market.
The introduction of ETH Options writing and our Options platform upgrade will empower traders with faster execution, greater flexibility, and richer market data to support more advanced and strategic trading approaches.
