Aave's proposal for its V4 upgrade passed a key preliminary vote with near-unanimous support, moving one of DeFi's largest lending protocols closer to a significant overhaul on the Ethereum mainnet.
"The ARFC for Aave V4 has passed," Aave founder Stani Kulechov said in a statement on X. "The next step is the final AIP to get the greenlight for building Aave V4."
The "Aave Request for Comments" (ARFC) proposal saw over 665,000 votes cast, with 99.9% voting in favor of proceeding with the V4 development. This initial governance stage allows the community to signal support and provide feedback before a final, binding on-chain vote. The proposal now advances to an "Aave Improvement Proposal" (AIP) vote, which, if passed, will formally authorize the development and eventual launch of the new protocol.
The launch of Aave V4 is expected to introduce significant improvements to the protocol, potentially increasing its competitiveness and attracting more users and capital, which is measured as Total Value Locked (TVL). The upgrade represents a major evolution for one of the cornerstone projects in decentralized finance, which currently holds over $13 billion in TVL on Ethereum, according to data from DefiLlama. The AAVE token saw a minor reaction, trading up 1.5% in the 24 hours following the announcement.
