Cardano’s ecosystem is facing a critical test of its decentralized governance model, with a community vote scheduled for May 29, 2026, on the “Van Rossem” V11 hard fork. The upgrade, designed to improve scalability and smart contract efficiency, is facing a potential delay due to unresolved technical issues, creating uncertainty for the network and its native token, ADA.
The mainnet governance vote has been stalled by the Hard Fork Working Group, which has withheld its final ratification over concerns about the readiness of the Ogmios infrastructure, a key proxy server that facilitates communication between Cardano nodes and applications. “Such a broad, decentralized approach brings challenges in coordinating all participants in real time,” project insiders noted, highlighting the complexity of the sign-off process that requires confirmation from multiple independent stakeholders.
The delay comes despite the upgrade successfully clearing all testnet phases, proving the stability of its core components. While developers from the community and Input Output Group are collaborating to resolve the Ogmios issues, the network’s native ADA token is trading approximately 92 percent below its all-time high. The price has been consolidating in a range between $0.235 and $0.29, remaining below its 100-day moving average of about $0.2601, CoinGecko data shows. The network itself recently surpassed 121 million total transactions.
This vote represents what many see as the biggest test of Cardano’s community-led governance. A successful and smooth implementation of the hard fork could enhance the network’s competitive position by potentially increasing throughput to over 1,000 transactions per second. However, a governance dispute or further technical setbacks could negatively impact ADA’s price and hinder future development, according to some investors. The broader crypto market is watching closely as the Cardano community navigates this pivotal moment.
