Globalstar Inc. (GSAT) postponed the May 17 launch of its HIBLEO-4 replenishment satellites, a mission critical to its network modernization, with no new date set for the SpaceX flight.
"The planned May 17 launch of its HIBLEO-4 replenishment satellites with SpaceX has been postponed to allow more time for Globalstar teams to prepare the satellites for launch," the company said in a statement.
The delay comes as Globalstar's stock trades near its 52-week high at $81.98, having surged 340 percent over the past year. Analyst firm Craig-Hallum recently raised its price target on the stock to $70 from $60, while maintaining a Buy rating. The new target implies a potential 14.6% downside from current levels.
The postponement introduces uncertainty for a company reportedly in acquisition talks with Amazon. The HIBLEO-4 mission is crucial for replenishing Globalstar’s low Earth orbit constellation, which underpins its satellite and terrestrial connectivity solutions for business and consumer markets.
The telecommunications provider did not offer a revised timeline, stating only that a new launch date will be shared once confirmed. The primary goal of the mission remains to bolster Globalstar’s existing satellite network to maintain service reliability and resilience.
Craig-Hallum’s recent price target adjustment followed what it described as the company’s “active progress in government sectors.” However, the launch delay could test investor confidence, which has been buoyed by speculation of a potential buyout by Amazon, as reported by Bloomberg and the Financial Times.
The company's services rely on its LEO satellite constellation and licensed Band 53/n53 spectrum to provide connectivity for asset tracking, automation, and safety applications through its SPOT brand of GPS messengers.
This delay marks a near-term operational setback for Globalstar. Investors will be closely watching for a new launch date and any further updates on its partnership with SpaceX to execute the fleet replenishment.
