Key Takeaways:

GSI Technology Inc. shares rose 4.2% to $9.66 after the chipmaker won preliminary inclusion in the Russell 2000 Index as part of the 2026 reconstitution.
"The preliminary inclusion reflects the growing awareness of our company among investors," said Lee-Lean Shu, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of GSI Technology.
The Sunnyvale, California-based company was included on a preliminary list published by FTSE Russell on May 22. About $10.6 trillion in assets are benchmarked against Russell U.S. indexes, according to FTSE Russell. GSIT's market capitalization stood at about $350 million, with trading volume of 5.8 million shares — more than double the 20-day average of 2.6 million.
Final membership is expected to become effective after the market close on June 26, with the reconstituted index beginning trading on June 29. Inclusion could drive passive inflows from funds tracking the Russell 2000, potentially boosting liquidity and institutional ownership of GSIT shares.
GSI Technology, which develops associative processing units for artificial intelligence, reported fiscal 2026 revenue of $25.1 million, up 22% from a year earlier. The company is advancing commercialization of its Gemini-II APU platform for edge AI applications and has secured recent contracts including a Phase I smart city project in Taiwan and a $2 million U.S. Army SBIR Phase-II award.
The Russell 2000 Index tracks about 2,000 small-cap U.S. companies and serves as a benchmark for a significant portion of the $10.6 trillion in assets tied to Russell indexes. Inclusion typically triggers buying from passive funds that track the index, providing a potential tailwind for newly added stocks.
The stock trades above its 200-day moving average of $6.54 and has a 52-week range of $2.82 to $18.15.
