Intel Corp. Chief Executive Officer Lip-Bu Tan bought 105,263 shares for $10 million on Aug. 11, a Form 4 filing shows.
"Intel has seen virtually no significant open-market insider buying over the last 90 days," Insiders Fund said in its Q2 2026 investor letter, published before the purchase.
Tan paid $95 per share, acquiring the stock through a family trust that now holds 1,314,669 shares. He separately owns 16,471 shares directly and 500 shares through a 401(k), the filing dated Aug. 14 shows. The purchase came as Intel completed a $23 billion capital raise that exceeded its initial $15 billion target, according to GuruFocus.
The buy reflects confidence in Intel's turnaround under Tan, who has bet the chipmaker's foundry business can compete with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. and Advanced Micro Devices. Shares closed at $104.56 on Aug. 13, up 325.73 percent over the past 52 weeks, giving Intel a market value of $552.72 billion.
GuruFocus data shows insiders sold about $2.5 million of stock over the past three months with no open-market purchases, making Tan's transaction the first notable insider buy in that window.
Intel's rally has been driven by a June 18 announcement that Apple agreed to partner with the company to design and manufacture chips domestically, plus the SpaceX Terafab venture with Tesla, xAI and Intel that carries a $55 billion initial investment. The stock has gained 425 percent over the past year under Tan, who has pushed the 18A manufacturing node for 1.8-nanometer chips.
The purchase gives Tan a direct stake worth about $1.7 million at the Aug. 13 close, with family trust holdings valued near $137 million. Investors will watch whether buying continues as Intel reports progress on its foundry expansion and EMIB packaging technology, which analysts project could generate $7 billion in revenue by 2028.
