Key Takeaways:

CRO fell as much as 5 percent to $0.0513 after Trump Media terminated its planned CRO token treasury venture with Crypto.com and Yorkville Acquisition.
"We wanted to get focused," Kevin McGurn, interim CEO at Trump Media, said, noting the market for digital asset treasury companies had become saturated over the past year.
Trump Media, Crypto.com and special purpose acquisition company Yorkville Acquisition mutually terminated plans for Trump Media Group CRO Strategy, citing "prevailing market conditions, and shifting business and stakeholder priorities." The venture would have created a publicly traded company focused on accumulating CRO on the Cronos chain and earning additional returns through staking those holdings. Trump Media bought $105 million of CRO in September 2025 as part of the broader partnership with Crypto.com, which also included plans to integrate token rewards into its products.
The retreat comes as the digital asset treasury market has become crowded and as the CLARITY Act has stalled in Washington over ethics concerns tied to President Donald Trump's crypto ventures. Trump Media is refocusing on media, data licensing and its pending merger with fusion-energy firm TAE, which McGurn expects to close before the end of 2026.
The companies also dropped a separate agreement under which Crypto.com would have serviced certain planned exchange-traded funds from Yorkville America. Trump Media is scaling back plans to build Crypto.com-powered prediction markets directly into Truth Social, instead pursuing a marketing arrangement that promotes Crypto.com's prediction products to Truth Social users. McGurn said the prediction-market business has become crowded, making back-end infrastructure a less attractive use of resources. He sees more opportunity for Trump Media as a distribution and data partner than as an operator of the underlying markets.
Trump Media's data licensing push is gaining traction. Its Truth Social API business now serves about 10 customers, up from roughly five, primarily high-frequency trading firms that feed platform data into algorithmic strategies. McGurn said news organizations and indexes are also approaching the company, and it is eyeing licensing deals with large language model developers and prediction-market platforms.
The company still holds 9,542 BTC on its balance sheet at the end of the second quarter, though it moved 2,628 BTC worth about $165 million to addresses associated with Crypto.com earlier this week. CRO trades at a market capitalization of roughly $2.4 billion, ranking 38th among all tokens.
The termination follows a bruising start to the year for Trump Media, when crypto markdowns drove a $406 million quarterly loss. Yorkville America's existing America First ETFs, branded as Truth Social Funds, will continue operating. McGurn said the decision was driven more by competitive dynamics than regulatory concerns surrounding a Trump-linked company operating in an industry overseen by the Trump administration.
