XRP Ledger validators are facing a May 27, 2026, deadline to upgrade their nodes to software version 3.1.3, a necessary step for the activation of a multi-feature amendment dubbed fixCleanup3_1_3.
The update comes with a degree of urgency, as only about 40 percent of the network had upgraded more than a week after the software's release, according to a notice from Hussein Zangana, Director of Community at the XRP Ledger Foundation. "Validators are urged to update their XRP Ledger nodes to 3.1.3 to prevent amendment blocking and service interruption for users," the foundation said.
The fixCleanup3_1_3 amendment, which entered a two-week activation period on May 13, bundles several important patches across the XRPL ecosystem. The update addresses an issue with expired NFT offers remaining on the ledger, adds invariant checks for Permissioned Domains, and fixes a trust line token limit bug related to vault withdrawals. It also corrects an issue where loan accounting information was not properly updated in associated Loan, LoanBroker, and Vault entries.
The deadline puts validator reliability in focus, as failure to upgrade before the activation date will lead to "amendment blocking." This safety mechanism prevents nodes running outdated software from incorrectly processing new rules, effectively cutting them off from normal transaction and consensus functions. The push for a smooth transition comes as on-chain data shows rising XRP Ledger activity and spot XRP ETFs have seen stronger inflows, making network stability a critical priority.
