A broad selloff knocked the Nasdaq Biotechnology Index down more than 2 percent at the opening bell, with Dyne Therapeutics tumbling 23.66 percent and Beam and Sarepta Therapeutics each losing more than 12 percent.
The declines hit several of the index's largest components in the same session. Amgen fell 7.19 percent, LENZ Therapeutics dropped 8.05 percent, Beam lost 13.05 percent and Sarepta declined 12.00 percent, while Dyne's slide of nearly a quarter was the steepest single-name move among the losers.
The concentration of losses — four of the five biggest decliners falling between 7 percent and 24 percent at once — raises the question of whether a shared clinical or regulatory trigger is driving the selloff rather than isolated company news. Dyne's 23.66 percent drop was the session's largest, followed by Beam at 13.05 percent and Sarepta at 12.00 percent.
The answer matters for positioning. If the declines trace to a common catalyst, the weakness could spread across the sector; if they are company-specific, the selloff may prove shallow. The counter-trend gainers point to the latter: Pharvaris NV rose 14.82 percent and Roivant Sciences gained 14.09 percent, while Pyxis Oncology added 5.40 percent and Arcutis advanced 3.95 percent — evidence that idiosyncratic positive catalysts remain intact even as the index fell. Investors will watch for company statements and clinical data releases in the coming sessions to determine whether the simultaneous drops share a single cause.
