Apnimed, developer of a once-daily pill for obstructive sleep apnea, filed for a US IPO on Friday as the biotech market rebounds from a prolonged downturn.

Apnimed, a developer of oral treatments for obstructive sleep apnea, filed for an initial public offering on Friday, betting that a resurgent biotech market will embrace its once-daily pill as an alternative to CPAP machines and other device-based therapies.
The company's lead drug candidate, AD109, met its primary endpoint in a late-stage trial in May, demonstrating efficacy in reducing apnea-hypopnea events in patients with obstructive sleep apnea. Apnimed has submitted a marketing application to the FDA and expects a decision in the first quarter of 2027, according to its filing.
Founded in 2017, Apnimed is developing oral medicines for obstructive sleep apnea and related disorders. AD109, taken at bedtime, targets a large patient population that has historically relied on continuous positive airway pressure machines, which many users find uncomfortable or inconvenient. The company is backed by Shionogi, a Japanese pharmaceutical firm.
The IPO comes as biotech listings rebound after falling to their lowest level in more than a decade in 2025. Apnimed plans to list on the Nasdaq under the ticker APMD. BofA Securities, Evercore ISI, Cantor and LifeSci Capital are underwriting the offering. The company did not disclose the proposed deal size or price range in its filing.
If approved, AD109 would compete with device-based treatments from ResMed and Philips, the dominant players in the sleep apnea market. A convenient oral alternative could capture significant share of the addressable market, which includes an estimated 30 million Americans with obstructive sleep apnea, many of whom are undiagnosed or non-adherent to CPAP therapy. The FDA decision in early 2027 will determine whether Apnimed can deliver on that promise.
